Very excited to have a fellow Rotarian from the Metrotown Club - Antonia Beck who is the Executive Director at Burnaby Neighbourhood House Society to speak. Awarded awarded the Queens Diamond Jubilee Medal for all the great work she has done in Burnaby. If you're not aware or need a refresher on what Neighbourhood house is: A Neighbourhood House is a volunteer driven community based social service agency that provides equal access to programs and services in response to identified community needs. It is a place in the community that provides a warm and welcoming environment for people young and old from diverse backgrounds. The Burnaby Neighbourhood is the first Neighbourhood House to be established in Burnaby. It opened their doors on April 10, 1996 as the South Burnaby Neighbourhood House with their first program Kitchen Works. Over the years, it has grown in the numbers of programs and services, the members who they serve, and the staff and volunteers who have made it all possible. They opened a second Neighbourhood House in North Burnaby in 2014 to address the unique needs of the area. In addition, it also operate 9 daycares, 3 preschools and a community hall. Look forward to everyone there. Samantha

Nov. 01, 2019 12:00 p.m. - 1:15 p.m.
For this coming Friday's meeting - we're excited to do a cheque presentation with Kristy James - CEO of the Burnaby Hospital Foundation. She'll also do a short talk about the foundation and where the money will be used for what. A short bio of Kristy James: Kristy began her career in the not-for-profit sector at Lions Gate Hospital Foundation where she progressed to Director of Donor Relations over a course of nine years. Her success led to a role as Executive Director with Cystic Fibrosis Canada, and most recently, Chief Executive Officer with Variety – the Children’s Charity in Burnaby. Kristy's list of experience in marketing and fundraising would be a great insight on how we can fundraise in our events to support our own cases. This would be a great opportunity to learn more about it. Be sure to have questions ready for her as well.

In keeping with Rotary International’s NUMBER ONE INTERNAL PRIORITY, our District has partnered with "Get Inspired Talks"to host an event on May 23rd 2020 called "Rotary Get Inspired Talks".
This is the result of an overall recruitment strategy to attract new members to Rotary and help clubs achieve their growth targets. The event, which is organized and run by "Get Inspired Talks" seeks to inspire attendees to take action and make the necessary changes to improve their lives and communities.
The values of both organizations are very aligned and the District believes that Clubs will greatly benefit from this partnership, from attracting new members to receiving sponsorship funds.
They have developed a recruitment strategy for us to follow. Franco Gallo and Tom Smith are leading the recruitment charge.
Roger Killen (Founder of "Get Inspired Talks") and Rotarian Scott Stroshin (sgs@telus.net), will be visiting each club in the Lower Mainland in January to describe the details of this initiative.
Look Forwward in seeing everyone there.

Feb. 07, 2020 12:00 p.m. - 1:15 p.m.
We got a great line up for February! Our first speaker is: Vanessa Wideski - Executive Director from Low Entropy Bio: For most of her life, Vanessa has been on a search for Big Truth, this curious nature has taken her on many adventures across the globe. In 2008 Vanessa made her way back home to Canada and decided to settle down, get married, have kids and start a business with her husband. She experienced a lot of success and endured some tumultuous times and is very grateful for all that she learned. In 2014 Vanessa experienced a turning point as she and her husband separated and filed for a divorce in 2015. Vanessa found herself back on the path of self-inquiry and chose to walk away from her business and embark upon a new journey that was more aligned with her pursuit for Life’s Big Questions; Who am I and Why am I here? After making this decision Vanessa experienced many meaningful acts of synchronicity as everything began to fall into place. She is now loving her current role as the executive director of Low Entropy. In Vanessa’s spare time, when she’s not making memories with her children, she’s doing her best to help spread the message of Love through this non-profit organization. Always striving to lower her own entropy first, Vanessa leads by example as someone who is doing what she can to actively participate in this paradigm shift moving us from fear to Love. See everyone there!
